Exchange Rate Forecasts - UK Pound to Euro, Dollar, NZ, Canadian + Australian Dollar & Swiss Franc - Currency Predictions 2015

August 20, 2014 - Written by John Cameron

Currency analysts adjusted their exchange rate forecasts and predictions for the Sterling against other major currencies such as the Pound to euro (EUR), Australian Dollar (AUD), US Dollar (USD), Canadian Dollar (CAD) and Swiss Franc (CHF).

The POUND STERLING (currency:GBP) fell at its first risk hurdle this week following yesterday’s numbers which pointed to a far larger than expected drop in the rate of domestic price rises. Investors shunted back their predicted date for the next Bank of England interest rate rise as a result; this morning’s minutes of the most recent UK central bank policy meeting represent the next hurdle for Sterling – the possibility remains that for the first time since Mark Carney took over at Threadneedle Street, one or more policymakers may have voted for a tightening of policy. The outlook for the Pound is now NEUTRAL.

The Pound Sterling to Australian Dollar exchange rate is trading up +0.22% at 1.79139 GBP/AUD.
The Pound Sterling to Canadian Dollar exchange rate is trading up +0.26% at 1.82296 GBP/CAD.
The Pound Sterling to Euro exchange rate is trading up +0.4% at 1.25266 GBP/EUR.
The Pound Sterling to New Zealand Dollar exchange rate is trading up +0.46% at 1.98271 GBP/NZD.
The Pound Sterling to US Dollar exchange rate is trading up +0.1% at 1.66372 GBP/USD.

The EURO (currency:EUR) failed to record any significant headway against Sterling yesterday in spite of the Pound’s woes. This morning’s whole of eurozone Construction Output figure carries more weight than in recent months as investors look for further evidence that mainland Europe’s economy is drifting into deflation. A poor showing would appear to bring a bout of all-out Quantitative Easing from the European Central Bank closer. Analysts forecast that the single currency will perform on a NEGATIVE footing moving forward and the GBP EUR exchange rate stands at 1.2480.

The Euro to Pound Sterling exchange rate is trading down -0.4% at 0.79830 EUR/GBP.
The Euro to US Dollar exchange rate is trading down -0.29% at 1.32815 EUR/USD.

The US DOLLAR (currency:USD) suffered a wobble in the currency markets yesterday after the latest domestic inflation numbers showed that the rate of increase in US price rises has dropped to its lowest level since the start of this year. Tonight’s minutes of the July Federal Reserve policy meeting will be vital to the near-term prospects for the Greenback – if the Fed’s policymen once again allude to the patchy nature of the improvement in America’s labour market then expect the Buck to ship further support. The Greenback is expected to perform on a NEUTRAL TO NEGATIVE footing in the short term and GBP USD stands at 1.6619.

The US Dollar to Euro exchange rate is trading up +0.3% at 0.75293 USD/EUR.
The US Dollar to Pound Sterling exchange rate is trading down -0.1% at 0.60106 USD/GBP.

The SWISS FRANC (currency:CHF) registered respectable gains against the Pound Sterling yesterday. Tomorrow morning’s Swiss Trade Balance numbers for July represent the next risk event of note for the Franc. Investors will be looking for the data to provide further evidence that the Swiss National Bank’s policy of maintaining the EUR CHF minimum floor at 1.2000 is having its desired effect. A break back below the psychologically important 1.5000 threshold would sound a loud negative warning for GBP EUR. In the meantime, the Franc is expected to trade on a NEUTRAL TO POSITIVE footing against the Pound; GBP CHF stands at 1.5104.

The Swiss Franc to Euro exchange rate is trading up +0.04% at 0.82595 CHF/EUR.
The Swiss Franc to Pound Sterling exchange rate is trading down -0.35% at 0.65936 CHF/GBP.
The Swiss Franc to US Dollar exchange rate is trading down -0.25% at 1.09698 CHF/USD.
