Currency News UK brings you the Foreign Exchange Rate Forecasts (2014) for Pound Sterling (GBP), Euro (EUR), Dollar (USD) & NZ Dollar (NZD) The POUND STERLING (currency:GBP) surged during the final stretch of last week’s session thanks to Bank of England Governor Mark Carney’s suggestion that British interest rates could be on the rise ‘sooner than the markets think’. Investors are expecting Tuesday morning’s UK inflation figures to show a rise in the rate of domestic price increases meaning that the near-term Pound Sterling forecast is POSITIVE.

The euro rate forecast is NEGATIVE

The EURO (currency:EUR) posted a steady performance at the end of last week, with market participants having factored-in the previous week’s raft of ECB policy loosening measures, for the time-being at least. Monday morning’s whole of eurozone inflation figures will be key to the single currency’s performance over the next month. If the data suggests that the euroland is slipping closer to deflation then expect market rumours regarding further ECB interest rate cuts to emerge. The euro rate forecast is NEGATIVE and the current Pound Euro exchange rate stands at 1.2528 GBP/EUR.

US Dollar exchange rate forecast is NEUTRAL

The US DOLLAR (currency:USD) has continued to put in a subdued performance during recent sessions as investors upped their bets that the next US Federal Reserve interest rate hike is now a fair way off yet. The Sterling (GBP) Dollar (USD) exchange rate stands on the brink of a fresh 5 year high and if Wednesday’s Federal Reserve policy announcement is followed by a downbeat press conference from Fed chair Janet Yellen, then a significant new peak is possible for the pair. In the run-up to this key event, the Dollar rate forecast is NEUTRAL. Pound Dollar rate today trades at 1.6964 GBP/USD.

New Zealand Dollar rate forecast is POSITIVE

The NEW ZEALAND DOLLAR (currency:NZD) was one of the best performing of the sixteen most-actively traded global currencies during the last seven days, following a meaningful change in tone from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. The Kiwi central bank raised interest rates during the middle part of the week and suggested that there might be sequential rate hikes to follow. The main event for Kiwi-watchers this week comes on Wednesday night with the publication of domestic Q1 GDP numbers. In the meantime, expect the New Zealand rate forecast to put in a POSITIVE performance. The current Pound NZ Dollar exchange rate stands at 1.9584 (GBP/NZD).
